EXAM STRESS? Do this to manage stress during exams.

How I manage stress during exams?

"Exams are coming!” this sentence itself is quite stressful to hear and I couldn’t agree more. As days pass and as we get close to the actual exam day, we tend to get more and more tensed and that is when we start losing our focus, making the situation even more difficult for our bodies as well as our minds.

But don’t you worry, I got y’all covered! I know different people have different ways to manage stress but I would still want to share my ways, because I have been doing that all my life and I have always been one of those stress-free kids during the exams. Here are some tips or advices that I believe will help you to manage your stress in a better way during that stressful exam period. Also, it does not matter if you are smart, average or poor in your academics, this post will surely help in some or the other way, I promise.

     I.        Know your syllabus

I am one of those students who would not study the entire year and cry over how pathetically careless I have been throughout the year on the day before the exam. Crying never helps. Trust me. It is humanly impossible to study or even read the entire textbook in just one day so I would suggest go through your syllabus and read the topics accordingly. This will not only help you sort the topics into portions but also help you recollect some of the important topics your teacher might have mentioned during the class.

II.        Move, stretch and breath fresh air

Give your body and mind a break after at least every two hours. Your brain is like your stomach, just as you know when you are full you stop eating, similarly your brain also reaches a level of satiety and you must give it a break too. This will help in reducing the stress induced headaches and improve sleep. Sitting at one place for a long time in a steady posture can cause body aches because of which you might suffer pain while writing the exam next day where you are supposed to sit for 3 hours straight. Change places while studying, change sitting postures with frequent stretching, go out breath fresh air.

III.        Spend a little time with your family

The more time you spend alone with your books the more your brain gets tired easily. During your short ten minutes break, go talk to your parents or siblings, sit with them get some sunlight, have tea or coffee with them, talk about something random but avoid speaking about studies. Remember there is a reason why solitary confinement is a legal punishment and at this moment you need anything but a punishment.

IV.        Avoid phone calls from whiners and braggers

This is a very serious and one of the most important advices I can give. We all have friends who call us during exams and either brag about how much they have studied or whine about how uncapable they are of doing anything in such a short time. Trust me we don’t want to hear from either of them. Both these types do nothing but demotivate you and as we know at this moment we can’t afford to give up at any costs. Study as you planned and trust yourself and you will get through this.

    V.        Hundred problems, One solution- SLEEP

Sleep deprivation has never helped anyone and would never help anyone. Setting an alarm and getting sleep for at least 7-8 hours is very important. Pulling an all-nighter is never a good idea. Instead go to bed on time and wake up a little early for revision, this will help you memorize stuff better.

Thank you for reading!

I would love to hear if you have any more tips that can help manage stress. Share with me in the comments.
